Associate Lawyer – Family Law

MPM Law is seeking a motivated Associate Lawyer to join its growing family law practice in Sudbury, Ontario. This is a permanent, full-time role with a mix of litigation and negotiation work for clients across Northern Ontario.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage a family law caseload (separation, divorce, parenting, support, property) from intake to resolution, including negotiations, mediations, and court appearances.​

  • Draft pleadings, affidavits, conference briefs, domestic contracts, and opinions with minimal supervision.​

  • Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, and third parties, providing clear, practical advice and realistic expectations.​

  • Stay current with developments in Ontario family law, the Family Law Rules, and related practice directions.​

  • Contribute to workflow improvements, precedents, and (if desired) limited business development or content creation.​



Qualifications

  • LL.B./J.D. and member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.​

  • 2–5 years of post-call experience in family law in Ontario; candidates with strong clinical/articling experience in family law may also be considered.​

  • Comfortable handling a busy, deadline-driven practice with significant autonomy and judgment.​

  • Strong advocacy (written and oral), negotiation, and file-organization skills, with attention to detail.​

  • Demonstrated professionalism, empathy, and cultural humility when working with diverse and sometimes vulnerable clients.​

  • Flexible work arrangements may be available, with an expectation of regular in-person work in Sudbury for court and client needs.​
